No fiddling
The Specter DIY has a phone-sized display that allows you to easily navigate, read transaction details, scan QR codes, and type in seed words.
Encrypted SD backup
The Bitcoin seed phrase can also be encrypted using an SD card. However, this is not quite as secure as the smartcard option with Specter Shield (Lite).
replaceable secure element
The Specter Shield, an extension of the Specter DIY, features replaceable secure elements in the form of smart cards. A secure element protects against physical tampering. This includes, among other things, preventing brute-force attacks and providing better protection when storing private keys securely on the device.
Quickly read seed phrases with SeedQR
Once a SeedQR has been drawn, it can be imported via the scanner with the Specter DIY within a few seconds.
Multi signature with only one Specter
Since the Specter DIY only stores the Bitcoin seed phrase optionally, multi-signature wallets of any size can be created with a single device.
With most other hardware wallets, for example, you would have to buy three separate devices for a 2/3 multi-signature wallet.
create secure cold wallets for friends
The Specter DIY not only allows you to securely store your own seed phrase, but also to create cold storage wallets for others. This allows friends and family who don't yet have their own hardware wallet to benefit from secure Bitcoin storage. All of this can be done with just one device, without the need for additional hardware.
Transparent Real Life Randomness
With the Specter DIY, real-life randomness can be transparently incorporated into Bitcoin seed phrase generation in the form of coin tosses. This allows for maximum security in the Bitcoin seed phrase generation.
Air-Gapped
The Specter DIY communicates with the internet-connected device extremely transparently, without physical contact. Instead, it uses QR code technology, which works perfectly with the Specter DIY's large screen.
Save everything with a seed
The Specter hardware wallet supports BIP85, allowing you to securely derive additional seed phrases from a single seed phrase. These can then be used, for example, for hot or lightning wallets. This way, you only need to securely store one seed phrase.
Time Locks
Since the Specter hardware wallet supports Miniscript, advanced Bitcoin custody features are also possible. For example, Bitcoin can be frozen for a specific period of time.
